Preserving Tahoe's History
Lake Tahoe History Museum 530.541.5458
Happy 4th of July!
As you watch our float go by, please notice that we are celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence by presenting the lost art of silhouette imagery popular in the 18th century for portraiture.
Our float illustrates “Travel Through History” in Tahoe beginning with walking, followed by horseback, railroads, steamships, and automobiles.
It also represents the kickoff to the opening this fall of the Osgood Toll House (OTH). The OTH is the third building at the museum complex and will be open for the first time to the public in over 100 years. As an exhibit, the theme will be transportation at Lake Tahoe.
Please join us in singing the following songs in celebration of travel, Tahoe, and the 4th of July!!!
Thank you to all of our volunteers who made this 4th of July float possible!
1-FREIGHT TRAIN
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
So they won't know where I've gone
Freight train, freight train, comin' round the bend
Freight train, freight train, gone again
One of these days turn that train around
Go back to my hometown
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
So they won't know where I've gone
One more place I'd like to be
One more place I'd love to see
To watch those old blue ridge mountains climb
When I ride ol' number nine
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
So they won't know where I've gone
When I die please bury me deep
Down at the end of Bleaker Street
So I can hear ol' number nine
As she goes rollin' by
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Freight train, freight train goin' so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
So they won't know where I've gone
2-THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
CHORUS
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me.
I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.
REPEAT CHORUS (above)
As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.
REPEAT CHORUS (above)
When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.
LAST CHORUS
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me.
This land was made for you and me.
