Preserving Tahoe's History
In 1968, .a group of volunteers gathered artifacts and started a small museum in the city of South Lake Tahoe, In 1983, the museum moved from our Log Cabin into the former county library that was remodeled in 2009, giving it a fresh, new museum experience.
The museum is operated by volunteers with a Board of Directors elected by members of the Lake Tahoe Historical Society and supported by donations, memberships and fundraisers.

“Return Trip to See the Movie on Lake Tahoe History - Lake Tahoe Historical Museum” -
We returned to the free Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum. This time one of the members of the staff was so nice and assisted us in seeing the good film they have there on Lake Tahoe history.
“The History Here is Worth Knowing!” - This free museum has something for children and adults. The exhibits are wonderful. South Lake Tahoe's history is incredible rich. It is more than just a tourist town. This museum is a 'must see'.
